I've hated the SuperSonics ever since I saw them play the Pistons in the 1990 preseason when Olden Polynice jacked up Bill Laimbeer's face and he had to wear that death mask for the rest of the season. Serves 'em right to be kicked out of their homes, buncha lousy bastards.Toddhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14174217660735500259noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6104552703714268853.post-1162086548610605872008-02-29T11:53:00.000-05:002008-02-29T11:53:00.000-05:00That's a great quote, MDD! When people get holier-than-thou about not following any sports, I find it closed-minded. As if reading poetry, looking at sculpture, or taking in any aesthetic human activity isn't a 'waste of time' as well. I don't expect everyone to follow sport, but I don't think disdain is an appropriate response either.<BR/><BR/>That Angell quote will be added to this FreeDarko gem as my defense against those who look down on my NBA obsession:<BR/><BR/>"We generally value athletes for what they symbolize. Sports aren't important, they remind us of things that are. Allen Iverson is the indomitable human spirit, Kobe Bryant the Faustian pursuit of perfection, Tim Duncan modesty in brilliance. It's our everyday experience with these themes that make these players so evocative. They stylize, or streamline, these ideals like art or fiction. In the end, though, they are only as meaningful as we need them to be."MDDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02388767818784073710noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6104552703714268853.post-90889168663653448782008-02-29T11:01:00.000-05:002008-02-29T11:01:00.000-05:00Yeah, you've been going on about this for years, B...Yeah, you've been going on about this for years, BK.
